Getting your Sunshine Coast lawn ready for winter

Professional lawn mowing on a green Sunshine Coast lawn

The Coast doesn't get a hard winter, but lawns still shift gears from June to August. A bit of prep through late autumn sets you up for a strong spring instead of a patchy one.

Lift the cut height. Through the cooler months, leave another 5–10mm of leaf on. A taller lawn protects its own crown, holds moisture better, and stays greener through the colder weeks.

Ease back on water. Cool soils don't evaporate the same way. Cut your watering frequency in half and water deeper, not more often.

Last fertiliser pass. A slow-release feed in late April or early May gives the lawn a final push before growth slows. Don't fertilise once you're into June — it just feeds weeds.

Final clean-up cut. Mow, edge, blow down paths, then leave it. One tidy cut before the slow season means your lawn looks intentional all winter instead of shaggy.

If you're not sure when to call the last cut of the season, we can take that call for you — we book a final winter cut for most clients in late May, then resume the regular schedule in September.
